Research Infrastructure Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Research Infrastructure Engineer to join the Research Computing team, supporting the development and maintenance of the University’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in HPC systems, Linux server administration, and cloud integration, along with the ability to advise stakeholders, solve complex technical challenges, and improve service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Analyze and optimize existing systems for security, performance, and reliability.
Manage system changes in line with established standards and procedures.
Design, script, code, test, and document software deployment and system development.
Provide technical support to Research Computing users, including debugging, optimization, and knowledge transfer.
Advise on service availability, lifecycle planning, and supplier product developments.
Develop and implement plans for complex change requests, evaluating risks and reviewing effectiveness.
Act as a trusted advisor between IT teams and University stakeholders.
Contribute innovative ideas to improve service efficiency and research outcomes.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

12–15 years of experience in IT infrastructure roles within large organizations.
Strong experience in Linux server administration and working knowledge of Windows OS.
Hands-on expertise with High-Performance Computing (HPC) technologies, including provisioning, job schedulers, and low-latency interconnects.
Experience with HPC job schedulers (e.g., SLURM).
Strong knowledge of Easybuild and HPC application installations.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and SQL.
Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.
Understanding of parallel programming methodologies.
Experience in designing and delivering training courses, preferably using GitHub IO.
Proven track record in IT project and change management.
